Ryman Composites Builds Reputation for Telco Antenna Shrouds (Sept 2011)

Over the last 3 years Ryman Composites have been commissioned to manufacture some unique and complex shapes and finishes for the shrouding of mobile phone antenna. RF (Radio Frequency) invisibility is critical -- as well as economical creation of a matched or complimentary shape, colour and texture. 

Below are a few of the projects completed recently, the most unique being the tile finish to match a facade in Martin Place, Sydney.

Ryman Composites (then known as NoseCone Manufacturing)  has been selected as the manufacturer of composite components for the latest Ultimate camper – the Nautilus, to be launched at The Caravan Camping and RV Supershow at Rosehilll in April 2012 Working closely with the design team at Ultimate, NCA have exceeded expectations and are happy to be involved with a product that is at the forefront of the RV manufacturing industry.

Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) Focal Plane Array Weather-shield Installed (June 2011)

Ryman Composites completed the Weathershield for CSIRO's Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) Focal Plane Array Weather Shield.

An initial research and development phase included analysing reinforcement requirements, low shrink resins and mould flow calculations. Production commenced several months ago. A CNC hold down jig has been fabricated for final trim and drilling to suit the laser cut and tapped backing plate. Final assembly of the prototype unit has been completed (with some celebration) and the first unit was packed and shipped to Parkes for testing.


The Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), is CSIRO's new radio telescope at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (MRO) in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It will be made up of 36 identical antennas, each 12 metres in diameter, working together as a single instrument. ASKAP will be one of the world’s premier radio telescopes and will help to answer fundamental questions about our Universe.

Winnebago Eyre B Class and Esperance A Class Motorhomes Launched (April 2011)

The 2011 model Winnebago Eyre B Class and Esperance A Class Motorhomes were officially launched at the 2011 Sydney Caravan & RV Supershow. 

Following an extensive design and development phase, 5 axis CNC cut patterns were commissioned for multiple components of the two new models. 
  • The A Class front comprises 3 parts:
    • lower bumper including air vents and driving lights, 
    • fibreglass bonnet incorporating hinge and catch-plate mountings for original hardware and 
    • upper front section that includes structural steel inserts, dashboard and parcel shelf panels, headlight locations, wiper mountings and a recessed flange for bonded one piece windscreen. 
  • The B Class comprises a low profile nose-cap and wing/step combinations plus a back cap. 
Pattern tooling and surfacing was also completed here in house with flanging, inserts and jigs designed by Ryman Composites. High quality tooling and framing completed in-house for production moulds.
 
Sales of the new models from the recent national Caravan & RV Supershow were reported as excellent. 

Virtual Reality (VR) Screen produced and installed (December 2011)

Our client required a segmented 180 degree transportable rigid screen for installation in training facilities and needed a fast turnaround for an upcoming show. 

Ryman Composites produced a CNC pattern, master-part and mould for ongoing production. Limited volume dictated hand-layup and a satin surface was maintained with a gelcoat colour selected for optimum projection qualities in all light conditions.

CSIRO has partnered with Ryman Composites to fabricate and supply the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) Focal Plane Array Weather Shield.

New patterns will be created using 5 axis CNC machining. An RTM mould set will be manufactured and the initial 6 parts produced early 2011 and a further 30 parts are expected to be required for the full contract over the next few years.

New 3D CNC Router installed (Sept 2010)

Ryman Composites has taken delivery and installed a new CNC machine with expanded 3D routing capability and 12 tool auto tool change. The new Tekcel CNC runs on Enroute 3D CAM software and can also cut surfaces generated from designs in Rhino. 

These additional abilities further enhance our patternmaking facilities and design and prototyping offering. In-house cutting of insert materials, some component trimming and drilling is also performed on the Tekcel enhancing speed, finish and accuracy.


Ryman Composites Commences Manufacture of Carbon Surf Oar Blade (August 2010)

Following significant research and development work Ryman Composites have commenced manufacturing Surf Boat Side and Sweep Oar blades for a new client. 

Previous suppliers had manufactured moulds but had been unable to make parts in volume or with consistent quality and strength at the required weight. Ryman Composites (then known as NoseCone Manufacturing) worked with the client further developing the specification of material and process, training operators and successfully producing the first order of 50 Side and 25 Sweep blades. 

Using a combination of Glass and Carbon Fibre mat including unidirectional and plain weave and a high density PVC foam core the blades are proving to be more than up to the rigours of the surf boat racing circuit.

New Model Winnebago Menindee (January 2010)

The complete set of moulds for the soon to be released Winnebago Menindee Motorhome were completed in January and the first prototype set delivered.

Comprising Nosecap, cab wing / steps, full length side skirt segments including wheel arches and a one piece fully moulded back panel. From CAD design through 5 axis CNC machined patterns, hand finished high gloss patterns and low shrink, high gloss tooling, the design and manufacturing process is overseen and undertaken by Ryman Composites (then known as NoseCone Manufacturing) to ensure fit and finish is perfect.

Ryman Composites awarded Winnebago Supplier of the Year 2009 (December 2009)

Ryman Composites (then known as NoseCone Australia) has again been awarded the Winnebago Supplier of the Year. Initially won in 2002 and hard fought for among many suppliers both locally and overseas, we are proud to display the trophy. The production crew had an additional reason to celebrate at the Christmas Party in 2009 when we were awarded this recognition. When you supply thousands of parts in various sizes, models and on hundreds of orders against a JIT system and judged on quality, service and primarily on time fulfilment it is a tough thing to win.
